Description: |
slight bumping on lower corners; this classic volume gives a frank and vivid account of the earliest of the Indian Wars. It was written by Thomas Church, Esq. (1673-1748) based on accounts and papers of his father, Colonel Benjamin Church (1639-1717), who was one of the principals involved in the struggles. This work first appeared in 1716 in Boston, and a second edition was published in Newport in 1772. This reprint has been made from the 1827 edition which was based on the 1772 edition, but had been greatly enlarged by the addition of extensive notes and appendices compiled by the noted historian and antiquarian, Samuel G. Drake. This work includes numerous extracts from contemporary documents, and Drake's notes provide a wealth of information about the people and places referred to in the text. |
